SOCIAL COMMITMENT

PERUVIAN ADVENTURES helps Andean communities through some of its programs and actions.- We do not exploit our porters and horsemen and make certain they are paid a good wage.
Some of our programs include social collaboration, as in the case of our Textile Communities Circuits, where we allow 20% of the tour price to go to the visited textile community.

We help porters and horsemen´s families by assuming some of their children’s costs, such as school material.

We organize local community visits to help the poor people of these communities with their second-hand clothes, toys, school equipment. Anything is welcomed by them (all types of clothing are useful for babies, children and adults). This is a very simple project and easy to participate in. If you visit Perú please bring useful items and we will distribute them to people who will really appreciate them

We can also arrange for you to be a Godfather/Godmother to Andean children, who are  often in need of help in their education.

PERUVIAN ADVENTURES are working hard to show that it is possible to simultaneously provide an  excellent quality of service, look after our trekking staff, and help conserve the environment.

Over the last 10 years the number of companies offering tours to Peru has increased as Peru has become a safe and popular adventure destination. As competition between these companies has increased, many of the companies have followed the road of offering cheaper services by sacrificing quality along the way. Many of these reductions in quality are quite obvious, including poor quality tour guides and accommodation. But there are also many hidden cuts that aren't as easy to see. Poor treatment off staff and tax evasion are just two ways that some companies provide cheaper services. Usually these operators have no respect for the environment and leave the trail dirty, or even worse, dump garbage in rivers or woods.

Over the last few years however, due to an increased awareness of environmental issues and increased access to excellent information on the Internet, visitors are more educated and more informed about the countries that they are visiting and the effects of tourism on their host country. Aimed at conserving the environment things are slowly improving in Peru. Numbers of trekkers permitted on some of the more popular treks, has been limited, and numbers of wardens and new regulations increased.

However, many of the worst offending companies still exist and are still selling budget tours and treks. In our opinion the only way to improve trekking standards and reduce the impact of tourism on the environment is to provide good information, charge a price that is reasonable for the services provided (with no hidden extras) and demonstrate that our company is working towards conservation of the environment, the well-being of the communities we visit, and provide a quality team for our employees to be a part of. During our trips, we make every effort to stay environmentally-conscious, causing as little disturbance as possible to our surroundings. We support and respect the native people living in the Andean communities, and work with them to share their customs and way of life with visitors.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONCERN

PERU ADVENTURES is fully conscious that the areas in which it is operating are natural protected areas and therefore complies with the corresponding Law of Natural Protected Areas #26834 (published July 04, 1997), as well as with the Law of Conservation and Sustainable Profit of the Biological Diversity #26839 (published July 16, 1997). All our operations, campsites and activities avoid harm to these natural protected areas and its biodiversity.
We use clean burning fuel to cook the meals on the Inca Trail. We carry gas stoves and butane bottles. All of our trekking staff receive regular briefings regarding compliance with the Machu Picchu Sanctuary regulations and basic environmental awareness.
